troy

"Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone, and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved?"

i dunno but when i hear it now i'm reminded of brad pitt and how he just fights loves and lives hard..maybe i made my own connection/impression...but just his whole attitude embodied that quote..it was exotic..or is romantic the word..just..oooh..hahaha in a deep philosophical way..oh right! it's sorta like ecclesiastes, life is meaningless so live it hard play it loud and enjoy to the max

Yes, but I think it's also about the fact that nobody really remembers what we do in this life, ok, except for Jesus ;) It's like "life is short" and we don't have a lot of time given to us to make a lasting impression, once it's over, "dust to dust" :P So I would say the message is we gotta make the best use of our lives. i.e. For God ;) Which would fit the theme of most of Joyce's other blogs ;)

i don't necessarily think it's a narcissistic notion to want to be remembered. in troy, achilles mentions that you're pretty much immortalised if ppl remember your name in the future. i think all of that comes out of the fear or consciousness that our lives will end someday. and then we face the question of whether or not our existence was meaningful. if you think of someone like mother teresa, her life will be remembered forever. not because she sought to bring glory to herself, but because her life made a difference in the world. that's why ppl will remember her. same thing with jesus. how is it that thousands of years after his physical existence on earth, ppl still remember him? it's cuz his impact on the world was just that tremendous. who you believe him to be hardly matters. you can't deny the fact that he pretty much changed the course of history.
